Soil Erosion

Soil Erosion

Understanding the fundamentals of soil erosion is a critical part of conserving our natural resources for future generations.

Modules:

·  Module 1: Soil Erosion 101

·  Module 2: RUSLE2

·  Module 3: WEPS

·  Module 4: Erosion Control Conservation Practices

Soil Erosion Module 1: Soil Erosion 101

Course Description: This course will provide an  overview of soil erosion by water and wind.

Objectives:

1.  Identify types of soil erosion and soil erosion processes

2.  Describe the resource concerns related to soil erosion

3.  Become familiar with the planned criteria used to assess each type of soil erosion

Soil Erosion Module 2: RUSLE2

Course Description: This course provides an overview of the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), and instructions on how to use the RUSLE2 model to estimate sheet and rill erosion.

Objectives:

1.  Become familiar with the variables that affect sheet and rill erosion.

2.  Understand how these variables impact soil erosion estimates in RUSLE2.

3.  Be able to use RULSE2 in conservation planning for soil loss due to water erosion and other related resource concerns.

Soil Erosion Module 3: WEPS

Course Description: This course provides and overview of the Wind Erosion Prediction System (WEPS), and instructions on how to use the WEPS model to estimate wind erosion.

Objectives:

1.  Become familiar with the variables that affect wind erosion.

2.  Understand how these variables impact soil erosion estimates in WEPS.

3.  Be able to use WEPS in conservation planning for soil loss due to wind erosion and other related resource concerns.

Soil Erosion Module 4: Conservation Practices (Coming soon)

Course Description: This course covers the structural, vegetative, and management conservation practices used to reduce sheet, rill, and wind erosion.

Objectives:

1.  Be able to identify which conservation practices have the potential to reduce soil erosion.

2.  Understand which conservation practices are used to reduce the different types of soil erosion.

3.  Learn which conservation practices are appropriate for different landscape and management planning scenarios.
